CARES cardiac arrest registry

CARES, the Cardiac Arrest Registry to Enhance Survival, is a registry of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the United States. Its website says communities that join can compare their emergency response with local, state and national results to find ways to improve survival. A 2024 study used CARES data on 736,066 non-traumatic out-of-hospital cardiac arrests.

Overview

Technical summary

The CARES home page describes the registry as among the biggest EMS registries worldwide and as one that links ambulance and hospital data into a single record for each out-of-hospital arrest. The page carries an all-rights-reserved copyright line and the site's terms of use were not read, so the site is cite-only here and this page restates it and links to it. No registry figures are copied. The 736,066 figure comes from the PubMed abstract of the redlining study (PMID 38851447).
