## In plain language

A large trial of 27,564 people with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and raised LDL cholesterol who already took a statin. Half also received evolocumab, an injected PCSK9 antibody, and half received placebo. Evolocumab lowered LDL cholesterol and reduced heart and blood-vessel events over a median of 2.2 years.

## Technical summary

Phase 3, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial (NCT01764633), 27,564 participants enrolled, started 2013-02-08 and primary completion 2016-11-11. The abstract reports the primary composite in 9.8% against 11.3% (hazard ratio 0.85, 95% CI 0.79 to 0.92). The paper says it was funded by Amgen, the registry lead sponsor. The registry lists dyslipidemia as the condition.
